Sometimes you wonder which is worse, all the heavy snow on Donner or the rain and rockslides on the Feather River. Another important thing to consider is that the Feather River is merely a 1% grade. That's why you'll always see the big grain trains go that way. Donner is shorter though and double tracked which is why the majority of trains run that way.
