So glad they came to their senses! Odd, that white band, though not so bad when a variation was used in passenger service. Always like the chosen livery and its future modifications. I believe I saw a Tyco or Model Power version of these growing up and though, no, no, no... you got it all wrong, lol.

MAN that is hideous! And anyone who thinks it's a great idea to paint a large portion of a diesel locomotive WHITE needs his head examined.

I have to guess the large white area was ready and waiting for the merger to become official, at which time "Burlington Northern" would be added, almost certainly with "Burlington" on top of "Northern". In my mind's eye that makes this scheme look pretty darn good. Does anyone know if that actually happened, or was the decision made at merger time to re-paint these units stock green?
