Interesting photo Robert - nice catch. I would like to know, however, why is the crew walking up to the diamond to get the signal? Was there a problem with the system due to the weather? Also, according to the photo, by the way, the locomotive number is 4599 - NOT 4577 as you have indicated in the Locomotive No./Train ID field. Still, and AWESOME and interesting photo. Good job and thank you for going out in a snowstorm to catch this photo.

Thanks, really should check numbers, but late night(my excuse and sticking with it). Train pulled up and stopped so I assume they could not get the signal. There is a time-out box if that is the correct term at the diamond. Later I saw a pair of trucks up by the crossing. Also as they go going they stopped at Hwy 38 just the other side of the diamond and two crew members got on but no one off. Don't think the new crew took over right away as one went to cab and other to trailing unit and the started up at once.

Photo brings to mind a sentence in one of the various 1980s coffee table books by a Don Ball, Jr., though I have forgotten which book, "Railroading is a 24 hour business without a roof."
