Remember reading about that trip in Passenger Train Journal magazine back at that time. The only GG1's I remember seeing were stuffed and mounted; but in my kindergarten and first grade years we lived in New England and around DC and did a lot of driving places, so there is potential to have seen one alive and making time. Still consider them a grand machine.

The Pennsy certainly made a winner when the GG1-1's were built....and they ran as good as they looked.

Beautiful shot of one of the all time great locomotives. I am amazed that such an old locomotive could still run at 100 MPH.
Several years ago I visited the Illinois Railway Museum and viewed one on display with a placard stating that “ it could accelerate a 12 to 15 car train to 100 MPH in 65 seconds”
