One of the things I was told about locos was that the trucks were pinned to the bodies (unlike railcars) so that if the loco derailed, the truck stayed with it, rather than the truck staying on the tracks and rolling away. Looks like the loco on the left suffered some severe impact as the trucks were ripped from the body. In the '80's, GE said it was ok to lift their locos onto a ship with the trucks attached as there were 4 pins. EMD said there were only 2 pins on their units, so lifting with the trucks attached was at our/buyers risk. All this was hearsay. Years later we loaded many new and used EMD units for export to S. America with the trucks attached and never had a problem.
