Thanks, Jay. This is my favorite type of submittal to see on here. The write-ups add so much to the photos. Now one of my screen shots.

And thank you for taking the time to share these images. It's always great to hear the stories behind these images. The Rock was a great railroad and it's sad to see them gone. They fell shortly after the Milwaukee Road did in the West. It was so unfair that their infrastructure deteriorated as they spent so much litigating with the ICC to merge into Union Pacific as UP was looking for a direct route to Chicago. Once the merger was approved, UP turned it down because the Rock's infrastructure was in such bad shape. As the Rock desperately sought another merger, nobody wanted them until they went bankrupt. Then like vultures, various railroads picked the system apart, grabbing up viable segments.

I'd have to agree on the "bankrupt blue" new image paint scheme. Nobody in their right mind uses that much white on a diesel, especially on the lower parts of it. Guaranteed to look like crap in no time. The older red and yellow, well represented in this scene, was much more attractive.

I walked around the outside of that shop building a couple of times back in the day. Seeing the inside is thus very special. I can't wait to see all your photos. Thanks.
