Speaking of the NYW&B, if you can find the books anywhere these days: there is a 1962 and 1972 paperback of 132 pages "Westchester's Forgotten Railway" by Roger Arcara, published by Quadrant Press; and, the 62 page "Westchester County's Million-Dollar-A-Mile-Railroad", by Robert A. Bang, self published 1987, and 1999 by American Novelties Inc. Both books are well illustrated with the Arcara book even including images of tickets and of construction diagrams. And yes, a number of the NYW&B structures were built to last for at least a couple geological epochs.

Call me critical, but there's something telling about the surrounding scenery (graffiti, litter, et al) that makes this photo of the clean sleek train seem, I don't know, out of place... like a rhinestone in a pigs snout? (Good catch though Greg, I trust you had personal protection).

This train is in operation or are they tests?

Quite a contrast. Looks like driving through a war zone.

A war zone-- police is more concerned about people taking pictures from public spaces along train tracks than they are of graffiti vandals and trespassers on the right-of-way.
