The highway pictured is U.S. 70 and the scene is at the top of the escarpment from the East Tennessee valley below. This is also the edge of the Cumberland Plateau. To the right of this photo, the train will go through a tunnel before descending down the escarpment to intersect with Norfolk Southern in Rockwood. The line was originally owned by Franklin Industrial Minerals and the locomotives were painted in silver, white, with red stripes and a red circular logo with a fancy "F" in the center. I have always thought the FIM colors were the better looking than the Lhoist color scheme. These trains only run three days a week as I have been told. The best place to watch them are at random spots from the top of the escarpment to their Crab Orchard facility westward along U.S. 70. If you do, any railfan will enjoy the diesel sounds of the older locomotives the company owns.
