That "baseball scoreboard" display was fairly common back then ad was to be observed by the crew in the caboose. SP's would display 000 if no hot bearing was detected. If an overheated bearing was detected the number displayed would be the number of axles from the suspect bearing to the rear of the train and the overheld light would indicate right or left side. Crews were to inspect the suspect all the bearings on the suspected car and the adjacent cars. If the two outer lights were displayed, then both sides of the car and adjacent car were to be inspected. If an inner and outer light were displayed all axles starting with the car ahead of the suspect car all the way to the rear on the side indicated were to be suspected.
