I've lived in Riverdale, not too far from that spot. Great place to watch trains. If I remember reading correctly, they've been keeping that bridge up, as far as maintenance is concerned. They want it there as a back up in case one of the other bridges gets seriously damaged. While there would still be delays, at least there would still be a track available.

Impressive bit of infrastructure. And there are two more double-track bridges that carry the rails in the foreground. Chicago has some great railroad spots.

Down the line where this train is heading these lines branch off to numerous lines. There's also a rail viaduct that goes over these lines, and one connects to it. It's a Metra line.
