Whats the Box around the Exhaust Stack ! Some type of Noise Muffling ?

The box around the exhaust is a “spark arrester” if the turbocharger lags, excess fuel ignites out of the stack. Keeps from starting fires alongside the tracks.

Does anyone remember the ads for BASF where they "didn't make X, they made X better?" I would hope that this is not what you'd get if BASF and BNSF worked together.
