This absolutely was an era where mergers were quickly changing the railway map, but that's hardly visible here. SOU engines, SOU and N&W boxcars and hoppers, but nothing in new NS paint. (Independent) MP boxcar, already outdated (I assume MP boxcars starting around this time were painted like UP boxcars of the time). The RI boxcar, a 1970s icon, is also the only evidence that this shot is post-1980 because its name is painted out.
