This may seem like an odd observation, but if there are doors like this on both sides of the car that doesn't leave much space for people to sit. From what I see half the side of the car is doors.

There are five seats between each pair of doors, slightly reduced from six seats on older models of B Division subway cars. This is because the doors on these cars are slightly wider, providing more space for passengers to board and alight quickly at stations. I've seen complaints online about lack of seating for customers taking longer rides, but the vast majority of subway rides are shorter and fewer seats provide much more space for standees. On the 42nd St Shuttle there are even cars that have less than 10 seats, to provide maximum space for standees in the busy service!
