Have wondered how Buffalo, New York, got its name since that region doesn't seem to be known for vast herds of buffalo roaming the Niagara prairie.
And then coming to mind is a railroad named Buffalo Creek & Gauley, memory says it was in a state other than New York and is not connected to this Buffalo Creek. Went and looked it up, West Virginia. And that raises a similar question, I don't recall ever hearing/seeing anything about vast herds of buffalo roaming the Appalachian prairie, so how did name buffalo come in to being employed there?
