This is what I call the squiggle. Back when the Saltville Branch was in its heyday the tracks extended about a mile further east and had a crossover. When they shortened the siding they switched the main to the north side roadbed going east from this point and it looks weird. Must have had some reason. They recently extended the siding west to make it 10,000 feet, which is already obsolescing. Headways of two hours or more this line really can’t handle much more traffic.
