From shadows indicating apparent sun angle, train was most-likely No. 63 the “Empire State Express” out of GCT in NYC then due-into ALB @ 11:20A-ET and dep. for DET 5 min. later (ref. tables on p’s 34-35 in ATK system public timetable eff.15-May-1975). All other W/b movements into ALB then arr. in the afternoon, beginning w/No. 69 “The Adirondack” @ 12:50P-ET (ibid.). The former featured checked baggage, full dining and lounge service and both reserved and unreserved coach seating, whereas the latter lacked both checked baggage and reserved seating (ref. p.35, ibid.). ATK #216 was an E8-R rblt.Apr., 1974 from RF&P E-8A #1007 of Feb., 1952 and became ATK #439 that Nov.(ret. July, 1981 ref. Lt. side of p.14 & upper-Rt. of p.18 in Amtrak by the Numbers: 2 by E. Simon, D. C. & K. EuDaly ©2023 White River Prod.), Trailing #270 still lettered-for PC was both their and predecessor NYC E-8A #4055 blt.Apr., 1952 and ret. in May, 1976 (ref. upper-Lt. of p.16, ibid.). Appeared to have been a rather hazy and humid day there ¼ mi. beyond the E (Lt.) bank of the Hudson R., and just-over a mile SE from the state capitol building in Albany. The station has since had extensive remodeling and two tracks added to the W (Rt.) w/new platform covers extended W/b a half-dozen car-lengths or so, while the Herrick St. overpass spans this locale.
