I like the big doodlebugs. Budd cars were deliberately built “weak”. We’d probably had more of this sort in later years if Ralph Budd had realized the railroads had lots of passenger cars that needed to be pulled cheaply.

Great photo. I was born in 1947 and my family moved to Portales in 1948. I attended grade school, 7th grade and 8th grade before my family moved to Norman OK. I have wonderful memories of trains in Portales and Clovis. I had a birthday party on a round-end observation car with M-190 in the lead. We went from Portales to Clovis and return. The grain elevator was was torn down recently but the station still stands. Thank you for posting this.
