This elderly example of late “1st generation” EMD SD-9’s deserves a bit of background: builder’s date April, 1959 (EMD const.#25156) as C&S #836 – first of their second (and last) order for these units through #842 delivered-in parent CB&Q’s “Chinese red” scheme. Repainted-to BN green/black w/white front (short) “nose” diagonal stripes during mid-1970’s, and re-#’d as BN #6231 in late 1979. Became BNSF #6128 (1st) on 29-Jul-1999, and repainted to “H-1 G”NSF scheme (seen above) on 06-Sep-2000 @ Omnitrax (Loveland, CO). Re#’d BNSF 1720 c.2005 (ES-44AC #6128 [2nd] blt. Oct., 2006 as GE#287 in order #1900 for that following year), to “GN” #1720 when ret.c.2009 and stored pending disposition since then.
