I spent many hours in that locomotive in 1990! It was actually a GP-7 with a cut down nose. We ran the train a couple of days a week from Gardendale to Crystal City primarily serving the DelMonte cannery there in the "Spinach Capital." We maintained the track on days we did not run the train. We put a yard limit sign at the end of the line in Crystal City and another at Gardendale, so the entire 40 something miles of track were considered a yard. We were limited to 10 mph, but did not have to be so strict on the maintenance of track and were not required to use an ETD (end of train device.) Many fond memories of my short time with the railroad, which was managed at that time by Iron Horse Resources out of St. Louis, MO. This locomotive incidentally had previous to CCRR, been in service with the Kansas City Southern.
