Sri Lanka Railways Brush-built EMD-engined M7 810 stands outside the small depot adjacent to Kandy Station on Thursday 17th January 2019.
The distant headlight heralds the approach of a train to Kandy's station, with its impressive semaphore signals. The night shift signalman looks on.

In 2013 there can`t be many places in the world with so many semaphore signals visible in one view. The locos visible are Brush M7 No 800 (left) and Hitachi M5 No 778.
Apart from the statue of Buddha (above the smaller clock) this could almost be a UK scene from any time since the Victorian era. The signalman at Kandy is busy at his job.
Cab view of Henschel diesel hydraulic No 667. This loco was built in 1969 as a W1 class, but reclassified as a W3 when later fitted with a Caterpillar engine.
