There are two things that the photographer will always remember Alpena for; Alcos and trees.

Quite possibly the only place in the country where you could catch two Alco C425s elephant style.

The LSRC plow extra arrives in Alpena.

LSRC train 326 passes through a pristine winter scene as it climbs the grade out of Alpena. Never before has the photographer seen snow quite like this, and the alco really makes the scene.

On a beautiful November morning the photographer was lucky to catch an old Alco Century working the Alpena Yard job. According to sources the old D&M Alcos will be gone by the end of 2009.

A matched pair of LSRC Alcos pull South at Franklin Street. Elevation for the shot was gained by standing ontop of my van.

Matching sets of Lake State blue are getting harder to find on the Huron Sub. as the new GP40M-3s (painted in TFM) tend to dominate the line. It's always a treat to get an Alco leading.

LSRC 181 leads train 327a into the Alpena Yard. The entire train, about 40-50 cars, can be viewed in the photo.

An awesome Alco-MLW-EMD consist rocks around Death Curve. The curve was nicknamed Death Curve by local railfans because of the way the trains rock around the curve.

Back from the dead. After catching fire on the Mackinac Sub. last week LSRC 181 leads train 327a into Alpena in the sweet morning light. I'm very glad to see that this old girl isn't gone.

Alcos still roam on the Lake State but for how much longer? Nobody knows but for now I am pleased to catch my good old buddy #1280 leaded a train out of Alpena in the late evening.
