The 742 was prepped for sale at the Wilmington Shops after decades of service switching terminals on the east coast in Albany-Rensselaer and Washington DC.
One of the oldest engines on Amtrak's roster, it was always interesting to see an SW1 working alongside the much more modern AEM7 road power.
With a build date of July 1948, the 742 is definitely showing its age, and it might even be a donor unit to keep Amtrak's other SW1s in running condition. There may be hope for it yet though, cons... (more)
