A derailment occurred when eight car NICTD train 701 picked a switch after leaving the yard around 5:05 am. Passengers had not yet boarded and thankfully there were no injuries.

NICTD South Shore west bound commuter train has just left the downtown Michigan City station at 6:26 on run from Carroll Avenue shops station to Chicago.
