Passing what was once the headquarters of the P&LE Railroad, R409 heads east along the banks of the Monongahela River in downtown Pittsburgh on a lazy summer morning.
Still in basic RF&P paint, with trash containers up front in the consist. As 409 passed a northbound near here, the call on the radio was "409, you look good, but you smell bad!".

R409 cruises through Churchville as the last train before they "turn off the layout".
Selkirk bound R409 sits at Garrett waiting for Q137 to clear on number 1. Once clear the 409 will cross over to number 1 to get to Sand Patch.
CSX R409 waits west of SHEN for the Q261 to cross over. In the train were four cement mixers on a flat car behind the head end power.
Traditionally, odd numbered engines faced south, and evens north on the RF&P. 133, leading southbound R409 was likely turned following a trip away from home rails.
Taking a break from the WMSR, I headed over to Ellerslie for lunch and this detouring R409. The engines are in Maryland, most of the train is still in Pennsylvania.
Continuing on its lengthy reroute, 8737 departs Cumberland.
