The Coast Starlight is receiving passengers at Emeryville on a summer morning. In the distance, Capitol train 721 is waiting for the Starlight to clear the platform, so it can enter the station.
Running around eight hours late because of a detour on the Oregon Trunk, the Coast Starlight snakes along the Sacramento River. The old Pacific Highway bridge in the background dates from 1925.
