On a gorgeous July morning in 1993, an 84 car Intermountain Power coal empty is loading at the Wattis Plateau flood loader near Hiawatha. The facility was designed to ship 200,000 tons of coal annually to the Intermountain Power Plant, via a 7500 foot conveyor from the Star Point Mine to the railhead. By the end of 1997, the mine had played out and the loading facility and Star Point were dismantled and reclaimed. With the exception of unused rusty rails and weeds, nothing remains at Wattis Plateau today.
