Luxurious "Venice Simplon-Orient Express" (VSOE, founded by James Sherwood of Kentucky, USA, in 1982) detoured over the Gotthard line (the usual way is via Arlberg and Brenner), pulled by Re 4/4 II 11227 and 11218 in multiple unit control, on the uppermost level of Wassen. The heavy train was composed of 17 sleeping-, diner- and bar cars from the 1930' of the former CIWL (Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits). See also picture
