Remarks & Notes |
Between Portage and East Dubuque, the line was built by the Illinois Central back in 1865. The CB&Q acquired trackage rights in 1889. There are some conflicting reports who was there 1st and dates? In 1994 the BN gained control of the segment from the CC&P and agreement was reached to where the BN bought the westbound main and both had trackage rights, and also BN would pay for any CCP train delays. Back when this shot was taken the days of East Cabin were numbered as a CCP operation. The place would be closed up in June and the BN took over. They then put CTC in to help dispatch and maintain the joint trackage.
Spend alot of time in that little place as a young kid. Too bad I don't have better photos from that era! I can remember some of the times like it was yesterday. Somewhere I think I got some old train sheets? One thing I remember the most were the squawk boxes the operator used to talk to the BN and CCP dispatchers. Something else gone from modern railroading.
Here westbound train 203 is about to pass by East Cabin. |
