| Now that's HOT!... The fusion of rails has just been made through the process of "Thermite Welding". Part of the hardened sand mould (which incloses and promotes the welding process) and slag is seen here after a welding gang member breaks it off to check the weld. Beginning to cool, an orange glow gives evidence of the extreme temperature it takes to make the weld. |
