My late grandparents (on the left) give a sense of scale to two of the world's greatest steam locomotives- C&O H-8 No. 1604 and N&W Class A No. 1218. The location is the old Roanoke Transportation Museum in Wasena Park, which was wiped out in the flood of 1985. Grandma and Grandpa, who grew up along the PRR's Atglen & Susquehanna Branch, were familiar with Pennsy's great M-1 4-8-2s, but they had never seen an articulated steam locomotive and were awestruck by the sight of these magnificent machines.
