Tthis coal train had alot problems climbing the .40% grade out of the Mississippi River Valley between Gladstone and Kirkwood. Eventually the train stalled here at Kirkwood and the crew is now out looking over things as the traction motor smokes from the heat of the hard climb. One can see all the sand on the wheels as the crew tried to keep traction at a slow speed. The train would get going again, but the rear unit would have to do all the work the rest of the way to Galesburg, the 9518 has had enough. |
