The only active SDP40F on the planet sees regular service hauling Rail Explorers' Railbikes and customers up the grade back to the museum in Boulder City, NV. The locomotive was built new by EMD as Amtrak 644 in 1974, and eventually traded to the Santa Fe where it received nose modifications to allow crews to board through the nose door. It still wears its Maersk livery from when operated by BNSF, and is now in private ownership by Dynamic Rail Preservation. As the first new locomotive type of Amtrak, wouldn't it be cool to see this wear the Phase I livery once again? It's a treat to witness this historic piece of equipment haul passengers as it was originally built to do.
