It's July 1, 1978 and the long summer days actually put some sunlight on the nose of a northbound, as a Conrail manifest heads towards Selkirk (and maybe beyond) along the Hudson River. Two Conrail-blue U-Boats (a U33B and a U30B) trail a Penn Central worms in love SD40. As I was 16 when I took this photo, I suspect that capturing that tug and barge on the river was quite likely simply good luck. That being said, I was railfanning with some very good photographers that day, and it's also possible they pointed the barge out to me and said I should include it. My memory is only that we had fanned the other side of the Hudson that day and stopped along the River Line on our way home, snagging three freights in the Roseton area fairly quickly.
