With 843 having arrived on the right, the 4 bankers to the left wait patiently for 828 to arrive. Once here, the bankers will attach to the head of the train and assist in getting the loaded train up to Arthurs Pass. The 4 DXC class locomotives are bankers are based at Otira and assist in getting all loaded trains up the 1 in 33 grade of the 8.5km long Otira tunnel to Arthurs Pass.
