Union Pacific's North Platte, NE to West Colton, CA manifest departs Salt Lake City for it's 725 mile journey to southern California. In the train's consist today are four Fairbanks/MAN marine engines, headed to San Diego for installation into the US Navy's final T-AKE ships under construction at NASSCO. There are two different types of diesel engines present here...two FB-MAN 9L 48/60 types and two 8L 48/60. The depressed center flat cars are designed for special service with brake wheels at both ends, A & B. The cars are owned by KRL, a private railcar owner based in New Castle PA, and by CCRX (Contractors Cargo).
