The Santa Fe station at Carlsbad, NM started out as a traditional brick structure that was later extended and extensively rebuilt into a stucco structure with a more "southwestern" appearance. An extension in 1914 and a thorough rebuilding in 1929 resulted in an attractive flat-roofed, pueblo style stucco structure. The end of passenger service and construction of a detached freight house in 1972 allowed the depot to be converted to offices. Freight room doors and part of the covered waiting area were filled in, and an addition was made to the former passenger end. The depot was photographed on August 14, 2017.
