After the derailment of a northbound freighttrain in the Gotthard Base Tunnel on august 10, international UKV traffic (containers, swap bodies, semi-trailers) through the Gotthard came to a virtual standstill for several days, as most of these trains could not be diverted via the mountain route for profile reasons. Since August 23, one tube of the base tunnel is now in operation again and is used for freight traffic, but forms a single-track route of about 60 kilometers. As a result, individual freight trains continue to be routed via the mountain route. This is freight train 53920 of SBB Cargo from Lugano Vedeggio to the Limmattal shunting yard (RBL) running through Wassen on the Gotthard north ramp, pulled by Bombardier TRAXX F140 MS Re 484 # 006. In tow is diesellocomotive Am 843 # 018 of SBB infrastructure.
